Product Assembly Team Leader

Summary of Position:
Reporting to the Production Manager the Product Assembly Team Leader is responsible for day-to-day management of the Assembly operation to ensure the key performance indicators of safety, customer service, quality and cost are delivered. This is a hands-on role encompassing the assembly of products to ensure that they meet all the required quality and safety standards. To ensure that all product testing and documentation is accurately completed to the required standards prior to release for despatch to the customer.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively managing team performance by monitoring KPIs and taking appropriate action
  • Assigning team workload on a daily basis to ensure productivity levels and efficiencies in the area achieved
  • Managing and appraising a small team within Assembly
  • Resolving day-to-day issues, including component shortages, documentation and quality issues
  • Identifying areas of opportunity to improve overall performance in the area and work in conjunction with other functions to implement these
  • Basic mechanical assembly
  • Basic electrical wiring connecting, soldering and simple wiring loom production
  • Factory Acceptance Testing of finished Copley products, including electrical PAT Testing
  • Calibration and configuration of equipment against reference standards
  • Completing documentation to the required standard
  • Performing fault finding and carrying out repairs to products as and when required
  • Stock and materials management including assisting with stock counts
  • Assist with writing of work instructions for assembly, quality control functions, calibration and testing
  • Be aware of duties relating to Health and Safety working in a safe manner and ensuring team members do the same
  • Must work in continued adherence to the established ISO9001 Quality Management System
  • Any other duties deemed capable of carrying out by the Line Manager

Specific Skills, Abilities and Knowledge required for the position:

  • Educated to Secondary education levels, GCSEs, NVQ Level II
  • Experience in supervision and leadership of people within a similar working environment
  • Must have experience of mechanical/electronic product assembly in a similar role
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions
  • Experience of using measuring equipment (including use of digital micrometer/pressure gauge)
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical procedures (i.e. thread tapping, pneumatic fitting assembly)
  • Knowledge of simple component level PCB population / modification
  • Basic computer literacy (i.e. edit/print MS Office word document, Excel)
  • Ability to manage labour requirements according to workload, and to drive the team to meet daily targets.
  • Ability to evaluate situations quickly, foresee problems and select effective solutions
  • Meticulous, with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure with a ‘can do‘ attitude
