The Combined Effect of Valve and Spray Orifice Diameters on pMDI Plume Force

Spray force is known to influence patient acceptability of pMDI products & correlates with oropharyngeal deposition, reducing the delivered dose to the patient. pMDI plume force is mainly influenced by formulation propellant, valve volume, and spray orifice diameter – effect of valve orifice diameter on plume force is unknown. The aims of this study were to:

  1. Characterise plume force of pMDI systems with varying valve and spray orifice diameters and
  2. Compare modeled plume force predictions against experimental data
